We would like to take this opportunity to honor the American Heroes among us - our service men and women. Please let us know of any service men or women - both past and present. We would like to include classmates, spouses and children.

If you have any photos that you are willing to share - we would greatly appreciate them. We will have a display table at the reunion - and also post the photos here on our website.
|
When sending a photo - either via e-mail to bhaegele@uiuc.edu - or a printed copy to be scanned (we will return the photo), please include the name, rank, years of service and a bit about the service of this individual. Thanks.

Although I find it hard to classify myself as an "American Hero", I suppose the months/holidays spent away from family, the emails from friends while deployed, and the constant support from people across the country, (many of whom I have never met), have endowed me as such and I feel an obligation to thank everyone for the support and respect for the dedication to country that I, and many more who will never return, have made. (Mrs LeSuer, Senoir Rhet, might kill me for that run on sentence).
I've been in the Air Force as a B-52 Navigator for 18 years now, currently with the B-2, deployed in support of different conflicts several times, seen the world from Oahu to Cairo, ready to retire in 2 years, and loving every minute of it. I look forward to seeing you all at the reunion. Next time you see a person in uniform, let them know their efforts are appreciated, it means a lot to all of us.

“American Hero”, that is certainly not something I would call myself I am just a guy doing something he loved to do. There is just something right in doing what you believe in. It makes the long deployments and time away from family a little easer to deal with. I retired from the Army in 2002 after 20 years in the Army Corps of Engineers. I’ve been to just about every continent except Australia and the Artic, and built all kinds of infrastructure - airfields and highways to school houses.

Then I decided to go into Law Enforcement (hard to believe for those of you who remember me.) To echo Major Sandberg the next time you see someone in uniform thank them. For they know the true price of freedom.

He has been in the Marine Corps for 18 years and is currently serving in Iraq. He is a CWO3 (Chief Warrant Officer) CBRN Specialist (Chemical, Biological, Radiological, and Nuclear Defense). Dana sent along a photo of them from one of the Marine Corps Balls that they attended when they were stationed in Hawaii.
