UHS Class of 1982 Humanitarian Awards

It is time that we recognize our classmates for the good that they are doing in their communities and the world.  To do so, the reunion committee has established two humanitarian awards.  We need your help to find out what our classmates have been doing.  Please nominate someone to receive one of these awards.

UHS Class of 1982 Hometown Hero Award

and

UHS Class of 1982 Helping Hands Award.

The Helping Hands Award will be presented to a classmate that has demonstrated a commitment to making a difference in the world.  This individual might be involved in mission work, relief work, a state-wide, national, or international charity or organization working to make people's lives better.

Nomination Process:

As we do not know what everyone is up to, you may nominate yourself for either award.  Or, if you feel more comfortable with the nomination coming from someone else, you can have a co-participant in the activity, a co-worker if in public service, etc....send in a nomination.

Please send:  a cover letter identifying the nominee and a nomination letter outlining how this nominee is a Hometown Hero or is Helping Hands to our world.  In this letter, please note which award the nomination is for and tell the committee what the nominee has done to deserve the award, what organization/charity, etc.... that they are involved in and anything else that will help the committee make their selection.

To keep the nominees anonymous, please do not identify nominees by name in the nomination letter.  The nominee should be identified in the cover letter only.  The reunion committee will assign numbers to each nominee to link them to the appropriate nomination letter.  The selection committee will not have nominee names, only numbers.

If you would like to notify us of a nomination, you can e-mail notification to bhaegele@uiuc.edu.  However, a hard-copy of each nomination/cover letter must be sent in order to become an official nomination.

Official nominations are to be received no later than Friday, June 15, 2007.

Selection & Notification Process:

A non-biased committee of non-alums will select the winner of each award.  These individuals will review the nominations and select one winner for each award.

The selection committee will notify the winners and the reunion committee will post the names of the winners on this page of our reunion website.

On Saturday, July 21, 2007 - during dinner - we will present the winner of each award with a plaque and a check to their charity/organization.
